Retrofit of Domestic Properties: PAS 2030/2035

BSI PAS 2030 refers to the specific requirements for retrofit property, including the assessment of property for retrofit. It also allows for the identification and evaluation of improvement options (energy efficiency measures or EEMs) which saves not only your money but keeps your property warmer during the winter months. There are design and specification of EEMs (whether individual measures or packages of multiple measures) as well as the monitoring and evaluation of retrofit projects, including External Wall Insulation, ventilation and air pressure pumps.

PAS 2035 is the overarching document in the retrofit standards framework, of which users of the TrustMark Government endorsed quality scheme are required to comply when carrying out domestic retrofit work.

Those involved in domestic retrofit projects (including retrofit advisors, assessors, coordinators, designs and evaluators) should have working knowledge of building physics/building science that is appropriate to the nature and scale of the retrofit project(s) on which they work and the type of building(s) with emphasis on the movement of heat moisture, and air through dwellings.

Occupants’ comfort, health and safety depend on the control and management regarding the flow of heat, moisture and air throughout their home as to maintain appropriate dynamic thermal and moisture equilibriums. The dynamic heat balance of a property (i.e., the way in which heat losses are satisfied by heat inputs) is an important element of its energy efficiency as well as the moisture balance of a home.

What role does EEH-Solutions play?

We are an accredited Retrofit installer with the relevant PAS 2030/2035 competency as well as access to a wide range of professionals with trade teams for our installations, ranging from domestic homes to low rise apartments and flats.

Before each project, EEH-Solutions carry out a thorough technical survey, which includes an on-site assessment to evaluate the property, structural evaluation and resource planning - data of which is required for a smooth transition from start to finish as well as a retrofit assessment.

EEH-Solutions perform retro-fit coordination in-house, planning and scheduling the development of the project as appropriate. This includes compliance with Health and Safety, Legal Regulations, Environmental Guidelines and accessibility. Communication is consistent throughout the project, and EEH-Solutions perform an evaluation at the end of the project to ensure complete satisfaction.

Project management is also conducted by EEH-Solutions internally, including on-site supervision with relevant Health and Safety management, resource management and Quality Control, all of which are paramount to the safety of EEH-Solutions employers and the customer/client.

Additional Ventilation Requirements

The ventilation projects under PAS 2030 and PAS 2035 will benefit customers by allowing them to have a well-ventilated property allowing fresh air into the home, it will also ensure moisture is extracted preventing damage to walls and to maintain the warmth of the home. Overall, the air quality will improve making the home feel both inviting and fresh.

Air Pressure Testing Requirements

Air Pressure Testing under PAS 2030 and PAS 2035 will be beneficial to the customer as it will determine the amount of uncontrolled air leakage through the gaps and cracks within their building. This will determine how much energy is being lost and whether further measures or improvements are required.
