South East Consortium 2024: #CallForAction

Today, I had the pleasure of attending the South East Consortium (SEC) 2024 #CallForAction conference at the iconic Olympic Stadium in Stratford. It was fantastic to connect with professionals from local authorities, housing associations, contractors, and consultants—all working towards the shared goal of creating sustainable housing solutions.

It was great to see some of our key partners from Wates, Saint Gobain, and many others who are instrumental in driving these goals forward. EEH-S strives on uplifting our fellow community members and celebrating innovation for the better.

Here are some of my key takeaways:

  • Collaborative Supply Chains: There was a strong focus on how supply chains can support housing goals through collaboration, allowing us to build more resilient, efficient, and innovative solutions.
  • Scaling Retrofit with Flexible Solutions: Retrofitting needs to go beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. We discussed holistic and adaptable strategies that can scale up to meet varying project needs and site conditions.
  • Beyond Project Deliverables: Retrofitting homes impacts not only the immediate residents but entire communities. Unintended outcomes—such as improved health, comfort, and neighbourhood cohesion—are just as valuable as the project deliverables.
  • Future-Proofing Green Skills: With an eye on 2030 and beyond, there’s a need to incentivise the supply chain to hire apprentices and develop programmes like the Kickstart Scheme. The goal is to ensure we’re not only training a workforce but also offering sustainable, long-term employment. This is crucial, as we need over 250,000 skilled professionals by 2050 to achieve net-zero.

The conference was an inspiring reminder of the work we all have ahead of us. Looking forward to implementing some of these insights at EEH Solutions as we continue to innovate in the retrofit space!
